She Said “No”

When Beth sent me her thoughts about Queen Vashti, I was stunned. I so appreciate Beth’s vulnerability and wisdom.

So, the King wanted to show off Vashti – but she was stubborn and headstrong in addition to being drop-dead gorgeous. He was wasted from the rager he’d been throwing. He wanted to show off his trophy wife. He sent for her, she refused.

This did not go over well. It cost her everything. It cost her her crown.

Here’s a few thoughts about the word “no”:

  1. “No” has a price. It’ll cost you something. It can cost you everything.
  2. Expect opposition. When you take a stand, not everyone is going to understand or agree with your “no”.
  3. No means no.
